Tanzania’s mining sector is quietly but steadily transforming the nation’s economy. In 2023, the industry contributed 9.1% to the country’s GDP, rising to over 10% by 2024, making it one of the fastest-growing segments of Tanzania’s economy. Gold remains the cornerstone, with exports valued at nearly $3 billion in the year ending September 2023—a 7.4% increase from the previous year. These figures reflect not just the wealth underground, but the potential for mining to create jobs, stimulate local businesses, and boost regional development.

At the recent eighth annual Mining Technology Expo in Geita, inaugurated by Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, it became clear that the growth of the sector depends not only on minerals but also on the technology and logistics that support mining activities. Mining is hard work, physically and economically. Whether transporting ore from pits to processing sites, moving machinery across rough terrain, or supporting small-scale operations, miners rely on equipment that can perform reliably in challenging conditions.

This is where reliable and affordable trucks, such as the latest Shacman models, play a critical role. Designed for African mining conditions, these trucks are built to carry heavy loads over rugged terrain, operate for long hours, and withstand the wear and tear that is part of daily mining life. For small and medium-scale miners, having dependable trucks directly impacts their ability to operate efficiently, lower costs, and remain competitive. For larger operations, these trucks keep supply chains moving smoothly, ensuring consistent production and minimizing costly downtime.

Within the mining range, logistics are more than moving materials—they are the backbone of productivity. Efficient trucks mean miners can extract and transport more ore safely and quickly, supporting higher output and contributing to Tanzania’s growing gold export revenue. By making operations more predictable and affordable, trucks like Shacman enable miners to focus on growth, investment in technology, and adherence to safety and environmental standards.

The expo also highlighted that mining’s impact goes far beyond the pits. Every ton of ore moved efficiently affects local employment, small businesses, and regional economic activity. Reliable trucks ensure that mining towns like Geita thrive, supporting shops, services, and transport businesses that benefit from the sector’s expansion.

The lesson is clear: Tanzania’s mineral wealth can only translate into lasting economic impact when practical solutions meet the realities of mining. Trucks may seem like simple tools, but in the hands of miners, they are instruments of growth—helping the sector sustain its contribution to GDP, generate jobs, and strengthen the livelihoods of communities across the country.

Mining is more than what lies beneath the surface. With reliable trucks, proper technology, and strong governance, Tanzania’s mining sector is not just digging gold, it is building the foundation for a more prosperous economy. At CFAO Mobility Tanzania, we are working hand in hand with miners as a transportation partner, supporting the realization of this economic trajectory.
